10 Ways to be an Early Riser

Rise and shine! Three words we hate to hear early in the morning. Unless you are one of the early birds, waking up can be a huge pain. After all, it is more tempting to cozy up in bed and catch a few more minutes of shut-eye. If the snooze button is your best friend and you have trouble getting up in the morning, read this list of 10 ways to be an early riser.

1 . Stretch

Waking up in the morning and twisting a little, gives your body a boost of energy. It also clears your mind allowing you to focus better.

2 . Exercise
Exercise releases adrenaline, automatically making you more active. Light exercise like jumping jacks or 5 minutes on a stationary bike helps wake you up.

3 . Don't over caffeinate
One or two cups of coffee every morning is all you need. Having more caffeine will make you crash before lunch, defeating the purpose of the coffee in the first place.

4 . Rehydrate
Our body needs water in the morning since we lose it while we sleep. Drinking a few glasses of water will kick-start your nervous system and digestive tract for the day, keeping you alert.

5 . Be consistent with sleep
Stick to a pattern. Sleep at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. Your body will adjust to this schedule and will eventually follow the pattern on its own without an early morning alarm.

6 . Wake up to mellow music
Does your loud alarm shock you awake? Change it or you might have a heart attack. Soothing sounds are better in the morning. The gentle awakening will start your day right.

7 . Wind down
Bright lights from a computer, TV or mobile phone can prevent a good night's rest. Make sure to shut them off at least an hour before you sleep. You will have a peaceful night of deep sleep allowing for a rejuvenated feeling the next morning (and less trouble waking up).

8 . Take an early shower
You know that fresh feeling you get after a shower? It is best to get that early in the morning. It will help start up your nervous system and invigorate your mind and body.

9 . Eat breakfast
It is the most important meal because breakfast gives you the energy you need to start your day. Have a healthy one without overloading on carbohydrates, or you will end up crashing after a few hours.

10 . Learn to breathe deep
Sometimes the first thing you think of as you wake up is your to-do list. Thinking of a full agenda can cause some stress. Take a few moments to close your eyes and breathe deeply, so your newly awakened mind has time to calm down before remembering the day's work.

Waking up early in the morning does not have to be a dreaded task. If we practice just a few of these 10 ways, you are off to a good start and a great day.
